After the approval of the tender notice for 5G by the Federal Court of Accounts in session this Wednesday (25), the Ministry of Communications indicated, in a note, that the document now returns to the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), which publish the notice within seven days. From then on, there will be another 30 days for the event to take place – which should therefore take place in October.
The minister of the ministry, Fábio Faria, says that the timetable for implementing the fifth generation technology is maintained. According to him, by July 2022, all 27 Brazilian capitals will have 5G coverage and all cities with more than 30,000 inhabitants are expected to be reached by 2028.
The event focuses on the auctioning of four frequencies for the implementation of the new technology for mobile networks: 700 megahertz, 2.3 gigahertz, 3.5 gigahertz and 26 gigahertz, all distributed by Anatel in national lots and regional. Most of the amounts defined will not be allocated to public funds, ie the auction will not be cashed. Anatel will authorize the use of the tapes once the winners’ obligations have been met, which include investments in infrastructure to expand signal coverage in the country. Another obligation is the construction of the private network of the Federal Public Administration, in order to prevent information leaks and protect data, according to the ministry.
