The Union Attorney General (AGU) alerted the Economy Ministry last week to possible billionaire defeats of the federal government with actions filed by states that are being discussed in court. The agency foresees the probable loss of around R $ 14.1 billion in ten actions currently in dispute concerning Fundef, a fund that predates Fundeb (Fundo de Desenvolvimento da Educação Basica). Governors are demanding additional payments for transfers made below the minimum necessary in recent years. According to the AGU, around R $ 6 billion of court orders linked to this fund are due to be issued by 2022. In a document obtained by Folha de S. Paulo, the agency advises that the element’s risk be updated to probable, at the current value of R $ 14 billion, issuing a warning to responsible agencies, in particular the Ministry of the Economy.
