The federal government has increased the quota of goods that can be purchased abroad and carried in luggage by Brazilians arriving in the country from US $ 500 to US $ 1,000. The decree, promulgated by President Jair Bolsonaro, is valid for entry through airports and ports. The rule came into effect on January 1 of this year. The decision was approved by the member countries of Mercosur in 2019. “The measure aims to contribute to the opening of the Brazilian market, through the reduction of tax charges on goods entering the national territory in luggage accompanied by travelers. », Indicates a note. of the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
