The National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC) predicts a 22% drop in losses for trade with public holidays in 2022 compared to 2021. According to the entity, the retail trade suffered a loss of 22.11 billion reais this year, which had the nine national holidays falling on weekdays or what he calls “bridge days” like Tuesdays and Thursdays.

For 2022, forecasts predict losses of around R $ 17.25 billion, with more public holidays on Sundays, when most businesses are closed, and Saturdays, a reduced working day. In practice, the reduced number of public holidays coinciding with weekends prevents companies from being subject to higher operating costs. According to CNC, each public holiday on a working day generates a loss of 2.46 billion reais for retailers, reducing the average annual profitability of the trading sector as a whole by 1.29%.

By 2022, two of the nine public holidays will fall on Sunday: May 1 and December 25, reducing the number of weekday public holidays to seven. The information comes from Agência Brasil.
