The National Committee of Finance Secretaries (Comsefaz) has decided to end the freeze on the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) on fuels. The measure was announced this Friday (14) by the governor of Piauí, Wellington Dias (PT), coordinator of the national forum of governors.
“We did our part: by freezing the ICMS reference price, they did not appreciate this concrete gesture, they did not respect the people. The response was an increase, an increase more an increase in fuel prices,” Dias said. According to PT, the measure ultimately only contributed to increasing Petrobras’ profits, without bringing benefits to the population.
The freeze was decided by states in November as an alternative to seek to reduce fuel prices. The measure is one of the controversial issues between President Jair Bolsonaro and the governors. Often the president blames state managers for high prices, which they dismiss.
