Brazil’s unemployment rate fell to 14.1% in the second quarter of this year, down 0.6% from the first quarter, but still stands at 14.4 million Brazilians, according to the National Survey on the household sample (PNAD) continues, published this Tuesday (31) by the IBGE.

According to the institute, the reduction was influenced by the increase in the number of people employed, which increased by 2.5% over the period. The number of employees with formal contracts in the private sector increased by 2.1% in the second quarter of 2021, reaching 30.2 million workers. In comparison with the same quarter of last year, this number has remained stable, but has interrupted four successive quarters of decline, specifies the IBGE.

“The growth of the occupation has taken place in various forms of work. Until then, we had noticed an increase in self-employment and unregistered employment, but little movement in formal employment. In the second quarter, however, there was a positive movement, with an increase of 618,000 more people in the contingent of employees with a formal contract, ”says research analyst Adriana Beringuy.
